Janatha Garage is one film which is being awaited all over. On the eve of the film’s release, we caught up with the director Koratala Shiva for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
Q)What is Janatha Garage all about ?
What happens when a man who is extremely nature loving meets a completely contrasting personality like Mohan Lal who has a different motto in life.
Q)What made you choose Mohan Lal ?
For Mohan Lal’s character, I always wanted a new face to Telugu films. At the same time, the actor should be quite senior and an intense actor. While writing the script, I always had Mohan Lal in mind and he too accepted the film right away after hearing the narration.
Q)What changes did you make for the Malayalam version ?
A song and a few comedy scenes have been removed for the Malayalam version.
Q)Reports suggest that you trimmed the film ?
No ! I have not edited out even a single scene. In fact, I want to add ten more minutes to the film in the second week if everything goes well.
Q)There is a lot of discussions about the heroines. Tell us about that ?
Let me clear that both the heroines play an equal part in the film. Their characters have enough importance to the script.
Q)Your name created a terrific buzz for the film. What do you have to say ?
Nothing like that. It is the combo which has clicked with the audience. As I have given two continuous hits, everyone is talking about me.
Q)Whose idea was it to rope in Kajal for the item song ?
The song has a very good situation in the film. Our producers suggested Kajal’s name and things automatically fell in place.
Q)How was it working with DSP ?
This is my third film with him and he had done a fantastic job with this album. Composing music for this film was a huge task as the script demanded some very emotional as well as commercial numbers.
Q)What care did you take about NTR’s character in the film ?
Right from the first day, I wanted NTR to look simple in his role. I did not add extra baggage and made him perform according to his character.
Q)Finally, will you score a hattrick with Janatha Garage ?
Who doesn’t want a success under his belt and I am no different.
