Every once in a while, along come films which make their mark in the sands of time and cross over from being just blockbusters to iconic legends. ‘Malliswari’ is one such film. It has been 60 years since the movie first came out and it still stands in the list of ‘Greatest Telugu Films Ever Made’.
‘Malliswari’ was directed by the legendary B.N.Reddy and has an impressive star cast that comprises of Telugu Film Industry Legends Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao garu and Bhanumanthi garu. Famous poet Devulapalli Krishna Sastry penned the lyrics while Saluri Rajeswara Rao composed the music. The movie has 15 songs in all.
‘Malliswari’ is the story of a young woman who is forced to go into ‘Rani Vasam’ – a system of bringing willing women into the King’s palace for permanent residence.That woman will never see an outside man again in her life. Bhanumathi is the young woman and though she goes into “Rani Vasam’, she is in love with Nagaraju (N.T.R.). Nagaraju is caught in the palace as he meets with Malliswari and is taken to the King Krishna Deva Raya for punishment. The King comes to know about their love story and pardons them.
‘Malliswari’ has some incredible performances from everyone. The songs are classic gems and the movie has achieved international recognition.Films like these defined the Telugu Film Industry in the early days.
