Music maestro Ilayaraja is celebrating his birthday today. He has been a huge source of inspiration for hundreds of aspiring musicians over the past three decades and he’s undoubtedly one of the greatest music directors to enthrall the audience in the past 100 years. He made his debut in 1976 in a Tamil film titled Annakili and since then there was no turning back. Since then, he has composed music for more than 900 films and some of his best works in Telugu and Tamil mesmerized the audience throughout the 80s and 90s. Songs in films like Abhinandana, Mouna Raagam, Sagara Sangamam, Rudraveena, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, Anjali, Thalapathy continue to be popular to this day. He’s credited for introducing western classical music in films and even at the age of 69, he continues to come up with some of the most melodious tunes.
