Chief Minister YSR is confident that the Congress party will bag a minimum
of 230 seats in the assembly polls in early 2009. A solid thirty years’
experience in the field, he feels, has given him enough knowledge to judge
the pulse of the voter. He cited the examples of Late Mrs Gandhi and Mr NTR
who romped home to resounding victories despite being written off in 1978
and 1983 respectively. He dismissed the various coalition attempts by the
opposition as political gimmicks, which the people will ultimately see
through. He attributed his confidence to the successful implementation of
various welfare schemes in the state. The welfare schemes, according to YSR
have begun to have a positive impact on the poorest of the poor. Addressing
a press conference in Guntur the CM said in an indirect way he would like
to express his gratitude to Chiranjeevi for splitting the opposition votes.
He was very categorical in stating that he will only assign seats on merit
of individual candidates and will not bow down to any kind of pressure
whatsoever.
