The A.P government has issued GO 336 to fill 292 vacant posts in the
state’s RTC. The posts filled are of traffic supervisors, mechanical
supervisors, officers under training, accounts and medical officers. The
government had recently come under flak for silently encouraging private
bus owners due to the pressure of certain cabinet ministers. The APSRTC
despite generating profits had been under the cloud of privatization right
from the TD regime and for sometime even in the Congress regime. However,
thanks to the sustained involvement from the left parties all steps in that
direction were stopped and the unions were taken into confidence. APSRTC
has always had a record of standing by its passengers especially during
times of rush seasons – like Deepavali and Dussera. It was thanks to the
APSRTC that the passengers could travel to their hometowns without any
“sudden and unannounced” increase in fares. In the last 1-year, APSRTC
ran a campaign wherein it assured passengers of providing trained drivers
and well-maintained buses. The campaign has yielded results and APSRTC is
one of the few state run transport agencies that has posted profits in the
past two years.
