The financial meltdown and the resultant global recession have come as an unexpected boon for India’s astrologers. According to reports in leading English daily the latest batch of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University has been “placed” with leading IT majors including Yahoo and Google. Their key responsibilities predicting the course of stock markets, fate of business ventures, giving tips on financial management based on an individuals’ star profile, birthday etc. Such is the demand for these professionals that even full time bank employees and engineering graduates are enrolling into such courses and are showing a keen interest to change their career streams. Some of them have even succeeded in getting job offers in the US. The Potti Sriramulu Telugu University says around 500 students pass out every year. Around 150 of them were placed this year with salaries starting form Rs. 8.5 lakhs per annum. It finally looks like the stars have turned around for the star gazers!
