The much hyped coastal corridor dharna organized by leading opposition parties including the TDP, TRS and the left turned out to be a colossal flop. A little over 5000 people attended the meeting which in turn was devoid of most of the big names. Leaders like Raghavulu, Chandrababu and KCR sensing that there was no political mileage to be gained, decided to skip the event totally. Their fear apparently was that the PRP which took the lead role in organizing the event would walk away with all the publicity. The Congress was quick to seize on the opportunity and termed the whole dhrana as a publicity stunt that eventually backfired on the opposition. The Congress has all along maintained that more than fair rates were paid as compensation to the farmers. Refuting charges of corruption, the CM has on numerous occasions called for the opposition parties to back their allegations with concrete facts. The Congress party expressed hope that the people would see through the political “gimmicks” of the opposition and teach them a fitting lesson in the coming elections.
