A string of scenic villages dotting the Muthukur coastline in Nellore district are now caught in the path of a raging cyclone. Pattapu Palem, Eepur, Thotapalli Gudur , Naelatur and Pyna puram are some of the villages where residents are reported to have fled their homes after the raging Sea breached roads and canals and threatened to inundate their villages. Though Khaimukh crossed the coastline yesterday night (IST), the meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall along the coastline for the next 24 hours. While the fishermen were worried about the safety of their boats and nets, the plight of farmers who had just begun tilling of their lands for the next crop was all the more pitiful as water from breached canals gushed into and flooded their fields. Shops in Kodur beach were evacuated as Sea water advanced by nearly 250 metres into the beach. Collector Suseelamma has advised residents to be calm and assured them that the government is monitoring the situation and is ready with appropriate emergency plans.
