Cyclone threat for Machilipatnam

Cyclone “Khaimukh” is all set to make a landfall on Machilipatnam coastline. According to the news last filed from the weather bureau “Kaimukh” was gathering momentum and lay stationed at 400 Kms southeast of Machilipatnam. It is expected to touchdown by Saturday 4:30 pm IST. Towns and villages adjoining Bhimavaram, Kakinada are likely to bear the brunt of Khaimuk’s fury. The met department has informed that the state is likely to experience heavy rains in the next 36 hours. The coastal districts are likely to be battered with wind speeds in the 65 to 85 kms range. Fishermaen have been advised not to venture into the open ocean and the respective district administrations have been asked to gear up to ensure smooth supplies of essentials for those likely to be affected. Safety zones have been identified for shelter and efforts are on to evacuate people from low lying areas. The government is taking all precautions as it does not want any “administrative failure publicity” with an election due in 3 or 4 months.
