One of the famous statements made by KCR during the run up to the 2004
elections was that he had scant respect for power and portfolios.
“Padhavulu maaku gaddi paraka tho samanam” was his taunt at the
Congress MLAs from Telengana who he alleged were clinging to power. But as
the 2009 polls are nearing, KCR is merely walking down the well worn path
of securely tying up family and political interests. In a not so surprising
move he has gone ahead and appointed his son K.Rama Rao in a key position
in the party’s reconstituted state committee. When he was in the TDP, KCR
was among the key leaders who vehemently criticized the dynastic tendencies
that the Congress party adopted. Wonder how he feels now, after his son has
begun a swift but sure climb up the ranks? If anything, the TRS seems to be
more family-centric than even the TDP. The number two position is held by
Harish Rao, who is the nephew of KCR. Sources close to the Telengana Bhavan
are already drawing parallels between the famous son and nephew clashes in
DMK and Shivsena in Tamilnadu and Maharashtra respectively.
