Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the Rs. 38,500 crore Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi irrigation project. This will count amongst probably the most expensive irrigation projects ever constructed in the country. The project is expected to bring Godavari water to the parched lands of the Telangana districts. The water would reach the fields in these areas after traveling a distance of nearly 700km and a gradient of 500km. The 700km will consist of 512 km canals and 188 km tunnels. The CM describes the project as a gift to the state on the occasion of the birthday of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi.
