Kakatiya medical college incident takes ugly turn

19 November 2008, Hyderabad.

The incident in which a final year medico entered the ladies hostel of the Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal has taken an ugly turn. The final year medical student Ashwin Kumar, who was suspended on disciplinary grounds claims that the who incident was engineered by the warden of the hostel as she had a grudge against the girl student. Ashwin said that he had entered hostel around 8:35pm, much before the scheduled close time and had gone to the girl's room just to give her a cell phone. The moment he stepped inside the room, the door was locked from outside. The girl in the room tried calling her friends but kept getting busy tones and there was no response to her messages either. Then at 6 in the morning, the doors opened and Ashwin found himself walking out in the full glare of TV cameras. Ashwin appeared on a private TV channel yesterday and said that if the warden had found him entering the room, she should have complained to the principal or the security guards, but locking the door from outside and calling the media was an uncalled for act. Ashwin said that his degree was important to him and he was not foolish enough to do a thing like this in the final year of his education. The girl accepts that Ashwin coming to her room was a mistake, but the way the warden involved the media was bad. She was afraid that this would have an impact on her career and life and requested the authorities to investigate the matter and clear the air. Listening to both sides of the story, the question of why the door was closed from outside and remained locked until TV cameras reached there remains unanswered and since the incident deals with the life and career of two young doctors, the issue should be investigated thoroughly.
