Phase I of the prestigious Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Gachibowli to
Shamshabad is now open to the public. The road has been designed for an
optimal speed of 120 kmph and a minimum speed of 100 kmph. In a move to
encourage infrastructure development on the periphery of the ORR the
government has encouraged builders to come forward and implement mega
townships in its vicinity. The entire ORR project is 162 kms in length.
Phase I is 24 Kms and Phase II is 138 Kms. The phase II will connect
Narsingi, Kollur, Patancheru, Medchal, Shameerpet, Peddambarpet,
Turkayamjal and Shamshabad. An eight-lane access controlled expressway will
form a ring-like structure around these areas, hence the name ORR. Land
acquisition for phase II of the ORR project is currently in the award stage
and will impact the lives of farmers in 83 villages in RR and Medak
districts. The phase II of the project will be completed by 2011. Once
completed the ORR is expected to greatly decongest the city’s traffic and
promote peripheral growth.
