PRP - A Pensioners' Paradise

16 November 2008, Hyderabad.

In his speech in Avilala, Chiranjeevi spoke about the prominence of youth and the role they will play in the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP). Well, all that seems to be talk. If the recent list of those who joined the PRP is any indication, one cannot help but wonder where the party is heading. All the talk about blooding youngsters notwithstanding, the party is giving an impression as if it is a pensioner’s paradise for old politicians who have lost the art of winning. A simple scanning of the recent list will reveal the reason behind this sentiment. Ch.Upendra who lost the last election he contested in 1999 is 72 years old. Mr. Shiv Shankar who joined the PRP on Saturday is 82 years old. Ch. Harirama Jogaiah is 75 years old. Mr Vidyadhra Rao is 62 and C.V.Sesha Reddy is 60. All these are leaders, who despite spending their prime years in parties like the Congress and the TDP have had very little to show in terms of a loyal cadre or political experience. Time will tell if these leaders turn out to be a boon or burden for the PRP.
