Whenever there is a family feud in the family of a well known person in the state, the media suddenly turn from watchdogs in to hunting hounds and devote reams and reels of news space for that. The latest in the series is the feud between Eenadu founder Ramoji Rao and his son Suman. It is well known that Suman had walked out of ETV, apparently angry at the unceremonious removal of his close associate Prabhakar from the channel. The entire issue has turned into a full fledged feast for the rival newspaper Sakshi which has today published a one page intereview with both Prabhakar and Suman and has both of them talking about how Ramoji Rao ruined them stopped the telecast of some of his most popular serials. The report has many unsavory details like how Ramoji Rao rebuked Suman at every stage and stopped the telecast of some of his most popular serials. He said that Ramoji Rao had taken signatures from him while he was recuperating from Cancer and had forced Suman to handover the reins of ETV to him even as he was lying on the bed unable to get up or speak. 'Ramoji Rao gaari ki puttadam saapam', he said. Yahoo Prabhakar said that he respected Suman immensely and he would never do anything that could hurt the relationship between him and his father. He said that if he was really the reason for the feud, he will definitely get out of the way.
The full blown war between the newspapers in the state is proving to be fodder for the news channels and it almost seems like these agencies feed on each other. Whether or not making this family feud a public issue is a decision best left to the respective dailies, but it is definitely not in the best interests of journalism.
