10kilos of Gold stolen from Shamshabad airport Cargo area

08 September 2008, Hyderabad.

Security lapses in the Shamshabad airport were shown up once again as a car carrying ten kilos of gold was stolen from the cargo hold area in the airport. The entire incident happened in typical filmy fashion and has put the state police officials in a spot of bother. The details are as follows. A courier company, Marudaar Express Services (P) ltd, gets a load of gold everyday via plane from Bombay for supply to local merchants. As part of the regular procedure, 10kg of gold, packed in four boxes was brought to Hyderabad in a Jet Airways flight. The concerned party came to receive the gold in a Maruti Omni which they left near the gate of the cargo hold and drove to the plane in Santro car to pick up the gold. Once the gold was loaded into the car, two people came running from the open area behind the cargo hold and threatened the staff with a revolver and a talwar. They then got into the car and drove away with the gold. The car was found abandoned near Shadnagar in Mahboobnagar district late evening yesterday. The incident is raising eyebrows as a similar incident had happened earlier in 2005. The suspicious fact is that the recipient of the gold and the courier company were one and the same last time too. The incident in 2005 happened in Nampally near the Ek Minar mosque. The police department has announced a reward of Rs. 50000 for anyone who can provide a clue to the case.
