CPM believes Congress is strongest party in state

08 September 2008, Hyderabad.

The CPM politburo meeting that took place in New Delhi over the last two days is said to have concluded that the Congress was the strongest party in the state. The TDP was ranked second followed by the Praja Rajyam party at third place. The CPM politburo is said to have discussed the issue of electoral pacts in the state extensively. The final thought was that pacts would be taken looking at the national picture as a whole rather than statewise situations. Since the Telugu Desam is playing an instrumental role in the formation of the third front at the Centre, the CPM might mostly go with the TDP in the state too. CPM state secretary BV Raghavulu also revealed that there is no chance of a national level pact with TDP and a state level pact with Praja Rajyam. He also said that the Praja Rajyam party cannot be nice to all the parties. For example, the Praja Rajyam party says it is secular and then tries to remain friendly with communal parties like the BJP, this is not possible, he said. He said that the Praja Rajyam party should give more clarity on a few key issues if it wants to make a serious impact on the political sphere.
