Veeru. K, who earlier directed a hit film like ‘Aaropranam’, is back after a long hiatus to direct a movie. He brings experienced actresses like Rajendra Prasad, Sitara and Kasthuri along with some new comers with ‘Gudu Gudu Gunjam’. The producers also made an interesting offer to the film’s women audience that they would gift each woman a saree. Irrespective of all these lets see How Gudu Gudu Gunjam work?

What’s it about: Ram (Rajendra Prasad) is a famous criminal lawyer in Vizag. His innocent wife (Sitara) spoils her kid Parthu (Parthu). As a result of a bet gone wrong Parthu lands in Bangkok, and tries to find a girl. After one or two attempts wooing other girls, he finally falls for Meenakshi. Knowing that her son wants to get married, Sitara lands in Bangkok to convince the girls’ parents. Here she meets Meenakshi’s aunt Malleeshwari(Kasthuri), who puts one condition to approve of Meenakshi-Parthu’s marriage. The condition is that Sitara should allow Ram to marry Malleeshwari.

Why is Malleeshwari after Ram, will Sitara approve of her husband’s marriage? How does Parthu react to his new wanna-be step mom? The film answers these questions trying to be very funny.

What is Good: Rajendra Prasad is extremely funny even when he doesn’t intend to be. Sitara and Kasturi show how to bring meaning through their acting, irrespective of the quality of the film. Brahmanandam’s dance in ‘Ek Niranjan’ title song is interesting. Krishna Bhagawan’s role is most irrelevant character in the film but is used to facilitate the director in a unique way. That says a lot about this film.

What is bad: While the scenes with senior artists are just about bearable, the entire episode of a youngster falling in love with a girl in Bangkok is dealt pathetically. One feels like watching a TV serial interspersed with an odd semi-porn film churned out in South India. And this one is too dubious – The story goes to Phuket, Thailand, and the director in order to show Phuket shows buildings with the words ‘Bangkok’ on them! My God! All the new comers need to be sent to acting schools. Surekha Vani is wasted in a pretty cheap role!

Suman, Shakuntala (loud as usual), M.S.Narayana etc. fail to save the movie.

Technical Departments: : The second half of the story, even though it is not new, is at the least relatable. Music director show us his class. He not only remixes old songs, he also uses the background music of Rahman (Iddaru), Illayaraja (Geetanjali) and even recent film from Susi Ganesan (Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu) without even caring to change them. Digital Intermediate was either not done, or it was as good as it wasn’t done! The only saving grace is the editing part, which worked to keep the film to little more than two hours

Final Point: Rajendra Prasad is such a talented actor. However if he chooses his movies carefully he can do character roles with panache. Instead, his presence in some movies attracts more attention than they deserve. This one belongs to that cadre. Watch it only if you want some crude fun.
