Director Harshavardhan is a modern guy. He sees TV daily and knows all about conjoined twins and narco tests and politician – media nexuses. He incorporates all of these into his story line and weaves a tale around two conjoined twins who are separated a few years after birth. But there are too many twists in the tale and the convoluted plot does not manage to sustain viewer interest throughout.

What is it about: The story is about two conjoined twins who are separated after birth by surgery. The doctor tells the parents that one of the twins has a brain that is not properly developed. The twins grow up separately due to the abnormality and one becomes a killer and the other becomes an ACP. Is the killer really a bad guy? Is there a second twin at all? And why is Priyamani after the hero? Hare Ram answers all these questions in its duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes.

What is special: The movie has a pretty decent premise and starts off interestingly enough. The first half moves along at an even pace though it is slightly disjointed. The first and the last songs are picturized well and some of the action sequences are choreographed well too.

KalyanRam puts in a good performance though it is not something we have not seen before. Priyamani looks glamorous and acts decently enough. Brahmanandam manages some good comedy in combination with Raghu Babu.

What is bad: The twists in the second half mar the story. The film which appears to be a plain story in the first half suddenly starts taking turns. The director also seems to have realized the need for some emotional content and packs in a lot of it in the second half making it heavy and slow. Also, trying to cram in too many things like a narco test, news channels, hidden cams etc makes the movie tough for the common man to follow. The production values were also pretty weak. Rajeev Kanakala's laboratory looks like a godown and the concept of men in plastic bags acting as scientists is hackneyed. The photography is also pretty hazy in certain scenes (wonder if it was a problem with the production or the film itself. Overall, the slow second half with minimal relief hurts the movie. Also, there are only three fights in the movie, but they are pretty gory. The family audience might not take to the movie so easily due to this.

Me Thinks: Not worth the effort. A modern story does not mean you include contemporary things and write a story around it. Director Harshavardhan does a decent job in the first half, but loses grip in the second half and makes it tough for the audience to follow the story. Kalyanram will have to wait a bit longer before he gets his next genuine hit!

Sidelights: The name of one of the Kalyan Ram characters is Harikrishna (after his father) and the other is Ram (after himself)?
The director of the film Harshavardhan is better known as Swarna Subbarao, who earlier directed 'Vijayendra Verma'. Looks like the new name has not done him too many favors.
