Producer Lagadapati Sridhar has been known for his judgment with comedy genre film ‘Evadi Gola Vadide’ and mass genre film ‘Style’. With ‘Sneha Geetham’ he forays to make a youthful entertainer with new comers and a new director. Is ‘Sneha Geetham’ audience friendly?

What’s It About: Sneha Geetham is predominantly about three pairs of friends.

Chaitanya plays Krishna who wants a safe secured life after college.

Ravi, played by Venkat, on the other hand is an orphan who is a bit different from normal engineering guys and wants to be an entrepreneur.

Arjun played by Sundeep is a guy who has joined his engineering college because he is forced by his dad, though film making is his passion and dream Shreya, Ria and Suhani play their love interests respectively. Life seems colorful and rich when they all are at college and it seems quite different when they come out of it. How does each of them solve the problems they face after they leave college and how they tackle reality after college forms the rest of the story.

What is Good: The intention of the story is its best part. All male lead actors perform well for the most parts and they are supported well by a number of character and comedy artists. Sundeep, though he acts with energy, will consider himself a touch unlucky that this film is released after his power packed performance in ‘Prasthanam’. Venky performs with subtlety and understanding of the medium. Chaitanya does well, whenever he is allowed to.

Few comedy scenes that include Krishnudu, Venu Madhav and Vennela Kishore evoke some laugh out loud scenes and good relief, whenever required!

‘Oka Snehame’ song is fresh and the music for most songs in the film is good too. Depicting four years life at an engineering college in one song is a decent try. Madhura Sridhar, the director of the film runs an audio company and obviously he knows how to extract good music and fair lyrics.

But good intentions, laughable comedy and few emotional scenes aren’t the only things that make a good film.

What is bad: Every director has a great weapon in his hand before going onto the sets. It is called the screenplay. The screenplay of ‘Sneha Geetham’ doesn’t have the sharpness of a blade nor the logic of a gun. The first half of the film seems as if the sole intent of the film is to create some tried and tested situations in a ‘Happy Days’ kind of setting. Hence there is a farewell song, a marriage song in a village and loads of unnecessary comedy scenes that make us feel like the real characters were forgotten. The war for the director is lost here, and no matter how much he tries, he only gets one or two favorable points with ‘ceasefire’ situation he attains in the second half!

The beginning of the second half seriously belongs to Venu Madhav. He becomes the film’s hero while the main three threads become just a reason to bring some songs onto the screen! After a long wait, it is only in the last part of the film someone realizes that some sense should prevail. As a result, the climax comes much better than what we start expecting.

There is this half baked gyaan coming from all quarters that the film seems like a moral lesson coming at most atrocious of situations. However it is the key actors, especially Sundeep and Venkat, who hold the film even with some most clichéd dialogues.

Technical Departments: The music for songs is really good in the film. It is the songs that don’t let the graph of the film fall or pick it up when it finally falls. Otherwise the film has very little to offer on the technical side.

Final Point: The biggest gift a film can offer is to make us forget the two hours we sit through it, and if possible get us connected with few emotions that we don’t normally connect that easily in real life. ‘Sneha Geetham’ took a chance to do it, but its execution left much to be desired, most probably affected by its lack of clear vision and in some cases lack of teamwork. Youngsters and comedy lovers might find it interesting. But for how long is a good question?
