Audio Review : Solo – Mani Sharma weaves his magic

Nara Rohit impressed movie lovers with his debut performance in ‘Baanam’. He is now coming forward with a romantic action entertainer ‘Solo – A solid love story’. The movie has Nisha Aggarwal, sister of Kajal Aggarwal, as the heroine. Mani Sharma has scored the music for this movie. The audio was launched at a glittering ceremony held at Shilpa Kala Vedika on the 22nd. Let us see how the album fares.

1.Song: Almost Atom Bomb
Artists: Ranjith
Lyrics: Krishna Chaitanya

This is a lovely solo number that starts off with some nice trademark Mani Sharma beats. Ranjith does a great job with the vocals and Krishna Chaitanya’s lyrics are nicely poetic. The song describes the feelings of a love struck hero when he sees the woman of his dreams. Heavy synthesizer beats and percussion instruments dominate the music.

2.Song: Marumallela Vaana
Artists: Hemachandra
Lyrics: Krishna Chaitanya

Another terrific number. Marumallela Vaana starts off with some lovely guitar and flute work. Hemachandra’s rendition delivers the right emotion and softness to the song and the lyrics penned by Krishna Chaitanya lend their support very well. Mani Sharma’s music is very pleasant on the ears and elevates the mood of the song well.

3.Song: Ammamamamoo
Artists: Sreerama Chandra, Malavika
Lyrics: Krishna Chaitanya

This is a very melodious romantic duet that is instantly likeable and you can be sure of a terrific picturization in some exotic locations. The song is rendered beautifully by Sreerama Chandra and Malavika. The vocals keep varying beautifully in pitch and timbre. Mani Sharma’s music is very cheerful and romantic. A superb fusion of classical and modern instruments.

4.Song: Na Prema Kathaku
Artists: Haricharan
Lyrics: Rama Jogayya Sastry

This is a solo number that starts off with familiar Mani Sharma music. The song is about the hero’s grief at a love story gone wrong.Rama Jogayya Sastry’s lyrics provide the required depth and emotional quotient critical for such a song. A decent performance from Haricharan. Nothing remarkable to write home about in the music department, but the job gets done.

5.Song: Singapore
Artists: Shravana Bhargavi
Lyrics: Rama Jogayya Sastry

This is the item song of the movie. Shravana Bhargavi’s performance is okay, but more energy and passion in the vocals would have elevated this number to greater heights. Rama Jogayya Sastry focuses on providing the masala content necessary for an item song. Mani Sharma’s music is earthy and has the necessary tapori feel. Decent effort but definitely not the best item number of the year. We will have to wait and see if the picturization infuses life into the song.

6. Song: Puduthune Solo
Artists: Karunya
Lyrics: Rama Jogayya Sastry

This is another solo number (pun not intended) where the hero wallows in self pity over his loneliness and unfavourable circumstances. Karunya’s rendition of the song is pretty decent. Mani Sharma’s music is soothing and melodious. Rama Jogayya Sastry’s lyrics are okay. The song will probably be used a filler in between critical scenes in the movie.

Verdict:

Mani Sharma is a master at providing movies with a winning soundtrack and Solo is another good example of this ability. The first three songs of the album are just terrific and will catch on very well with the public. The other three tracks are decent and will get the job done. What is very surprising is the fact that there is only 1 duet in this movie which happens to be a love story with an action backdrop. ‘Almost atom bomb’, ‘Marumalle Vaana’ and ‘Ammamamamoo’ are my picks.

Nara Rohit has a musical winner on his hands. Let us see what impact the movie will create at the Box Office
