Ala Modalaindi

The title of Nandini Reddy’s first movie sounds interesting - Ala Modalaindi. The music for this movie has been rendered by Kalyani Malik who has specialized in giving casual and hum-able tunes. It will be interesting to see how his tunes are for Ala Modalaindi.

1. Cheli Vinamani
Singer: Hemachandra
Lyricist: Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry

Ala Modalaindi The album starts off with keyboards and guitars. Hemachandra makes a heartful rendition of a Sirivennela song. Cheli Vinamani is a completely a writer’s song, with the music just supporting it. While ‘a boy wondering if his girl will accept his feelings’ is a seemingly ordinary situation, there is something charming about it. Kalyani Malik’s music maintains the charm by adding a touch of mystique to it! It’s a decent start to the album – a song with simple words.

2. Edo Anukunte
Singers: Deepu, Nithya Menen
Lyricist: Laxmi Bhoopal

Ragada Edo Anukunte is again a situational song, where obviously the boy and girl are drunk and wondering why people fall in love! Kalyani uses lot of techno sounds, nothing unusual. This sounds like an unusual situation for a Telugu film, and Kalyani could have added something completely new. What’s appreciable is that when Deepu sings, he sounds completely like Nani. Nithya Menen debuts as a singer; she definitely has good voice and does well in this chatty song.

3. Innaallu Naa Kallu
Artist(s): Kalyani Malik, Geetha Madhuri
Lyricist: Ananth Sriram

Ragada When more than one guitars play, it always adds a sense of anticipation, and this song does that right from the start. Inanallu Naa Kallu is a wonderfully written by Ananth Sriram, and singer Geetha Madhuri does a great job. While Kalyani Malik also sings, he excels with his variations in both tune and in using the instruments.

4. Oo Baby
Artist(s): Veena Sahithi
Lyricist: Veena Sahithi

Ragada It is good to find a girl lyricist in Telugu, and to find that she is also a singer is quite appreciable! Veena Sahithi deserves a clap. It is a completely western number, and Kalyani Malik ups the beat interspersed with techno sounds.

5. Ammammo Ammo
Artist(s): Kalyani Malik, Nithya Menen
Lyricist: Ananth Sriram

Ragada When Kalyani sticks to slow and easy numbers he comes across as a terrific composer. This is another chatty number, with cool drums following it all through, more or less. Ananth Sriram comes up with interesting lyrics that look into the psyche of a girl. The song leaves a lot to imagine and easily competes with Inanallu Naa Kallu as the best song of the album!

Final Point : The songs in Ala Modalaindi are definitely more situational than being typical Telugu film songs. Almost all the songs tell a story, giving us insights into the characters of the film. Kalyani Malik keeps it simple throughout and atleast three songs make a mark. Ala Modalaindo is definitely not a bad buy. There is something about this album that increases the anticipation of how the movie is going to be. If that is the purpose of releasing the audio earlier than the movie, then Ala Modalaindi is a huge success!
