Director Trivikram Srinivasa Rao recalled how he grew up on a steady diet of Yuddhanapudi Sulochana Rani’s novels. Calling her the very epitome of middle class values, the acclaimed director said that the writer was far ahead of her days and had an excellent understanding of the emotional ebbs and flows of middle class families. Annapoorna studios, Trivikram recalled was among the first cine establishments to see the inherent story telling strength of Ms Sulochan Rani. Films like Secretary were based on Sulochana Rani’s novels. Prema Laekhalu and Girija Kalyanam too were adapted onto the big screen. He concluded by stating that Sulochana Rani was the Jane Austen of Telugu literature and said that some of her novels were in their 100th reprint cycle. He also expressed concern that good novelists have become a rarity these days and called young writers to step in and fill the void.
