Pawan Kalyan, Samantha starrer Atharintiki Dharedhi is one of the several Telugu film in contention for National Awards this year. Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) has unveiled the list of films from various languages that are in race and from Telugu alone there are 20 entries.
Some of the noticeable names in the list include films like Atharintiki Dharedhi, Mirchi, Sahasam, Prema Katha Chitram, Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Uyyala Jampala and Anthaku Mundhu Aa Tharuvatha. Incidentally, films like Basanti, Jagadguru Aadi Shankara, Swami Vivekananda, Mingurulu and Kamala Tho Naa Prayanam are also in the list. Now, a panel from DFF will watch all the films from various languages and the final list of winners will be announced soon. The formal ceremony of the 61st National Awards will be held on May 3.
Veteran lyricist and filmmaker, Gulzar is going to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema. Last year, Eega was the only Telugu film which managed to rake in two National awards. We’ll have to wait and see if Telugu films get these prestigious awards this year.
