The friction between the Telugu Film Producer’s Council and Digital Service Providers (DSPs) like UFO, Qube, Scrabble and PXD over collecting exorbitant Virtual Print Fee (VPF) is getting intense with each passing day.
In a fresh salvo, Telugu Film Chamber’s President and senior producer P Kiran issued an ultimatum to the DSPs, asking them to come for discussions within a week. He further warned that cinema theaters across the twin Telugu states will be closed from March 1st if the DSPs do not reduce the VPF.
Recently, P Kiran held a meeting with the representatives of all the producer councils from Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam film industries. He said that the existing DSPs have monopolized the market, making it difficult for the entry of low-cost DSPs. P Kiran further said that the DSPs must stick to the initial agreement of collecting the VPF from exhibitors for only 5 years.
