Are too many unwanted controversies casting dark clouds over the prestigious biopic on Rani Laxmibai, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi? Looks like it is. After the film’s original director Krish’s exit, Kangana Ranaut taking charge of the direction department led to a huge debate. A clapboard on the film’s set even had Kangana’s name as the director.
And yesterday, popular character artiste Sonu Sood reportedly walked out of Manikarnika due to issues with Kangana. Sonu was essaying Sadashivrao Bhau’s role in the movie and he had even shot for his portions under Krish’s direction last year.
Sonu walked out of Manikarnika after the makers asked him to reshoot his portions, but he couldn’t adjust his dates which were already allotted to Simmba. Kangana alleged that Sonu has walked out as he did not want to act under a woman director.
On the other hand, Sonu’s spokesperson informed the media that Sonu has always been a thorough professional and never jeopardized the projects he was part of. “Sonu told Manikarnika makers to wait till he finishes Simmba’d shoot by the end of September. But since the makers are in a hurry to finish the shoot to reach the January 25 deadline, they replaced Sonu with another actor. The decision was mutual,” they added.
