Kannada Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar will be posthumously awarded ‘Karnataka Ratna’ by the Karnataka government. CM Basavaraj Bommai made the announcement earlier today in Bengaluru. The CM made the announcement during ‘Puneetha Namana’ memorial meeting organised by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) in association with Kannada film actors’ and technicians’ associations.
CM Basavaraj also said that fans’ wish to see Puneeth being honoured with national level awards will also be looked into in the upcoming cabinet. Puneeth will be the 10th recipient of ‘Kannada Kanteerva, Karnataka government’s highest civilian honour. Puneeth (46) passed away due to a massive cardiac arrest on October 29. He was laid to rest with full state honours at Kanteerava Studios in Bengaluru next to his father and mother on October 31.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress welcomed the government’s decision and also requested the CM recommend Puneeth’s name for the ‘Padma Shri’ award.
