2022 has been the year of South cinema. The southern film industry has shown complete dominance over Bollywood both in terms of collections and content. Many films became superhits and blockbusters, and many talented filmmakers came into the spotlight.
This year south has witnessed five new industry hits. The biggest multistarrer film RRR, from Tollywood, starring NTR and Ram Charan, broke new records and has become the new industry hit in Telugu. Rajamouli once again weaved his magic, and the film is on track to win the Oscars as well.
Yash’s KGF 2 is one of the huge blockbusters in Indian cinema, and currently, it ranks 3rd among the country’s highest-grossing films. The film was the new industry hit in Karnataka until Rishab Shetty’s Kantara overtook it. Kantara, in particular, was embraced very well by Indian audiences, and both these films have enhanced the standards of Sandalwood.
Kollywood had two industry hits in the form of Vikram and Ponniyin Selvan. The former brought back the lost box office glory of Universal hero Kamal Haasan, while the latter became the Tamil cinema’s pride showcasing Tamilian culture and dynasties.
The coming year also has a lot of crazy films from the south, like Salaar, Adhipurush, Pushpa 2, Ponniyin Selvan 2, Indian 2, RC15, NTR30, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, and HanuMan. So let’s see which films will leave their mark in the new year.
