In a first of its kind move, Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce is taking active steps to preserve as well as promote Telugu film’s legacy. In a press meet held earlier today, Tammareddy Baradwaja, the President of Film Chamber of Commerce said, “Recently, Indian cinema has completed 100 years and there’s a need to highlight the achievements and contribution of Telugu film industry to Indian cinema. We have had people like Raghupathi Venkaiah, who was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema. Unfortunately, many records of old Telugu films including film reels, audio cassettes, wall posters, newspaper clippings, books and several other things, are not available with us. We request the people all over the world to inform us in case if you have anything related to Telugu films in the past. We are planning to hold an exhibition in June and conduct several seminars and workshops later this year to highlight Telugu cinema’s legacy.”
Tammareddy and General secretary Ashok Kumar later quoted several examples of how difficult it was for them to organize 75 years of Telugu cinema few years ago; although their efforts were well appreciated by other film industries. “We got to know a lot of information about old Telugu films from articles published in the media and some eminent journalists have done great research in the film. Few years later, we’ll be celebrating 100 years of Telugu cinema and 100 years of talkie cinema. There’s a need to promote Telugu cinema and that’s reason why this has to be a collaborative effort,” Ashok Kumar said.
