Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film, Jana Nayagan, is set to hit the big screens on January 9. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead, with Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol appearing in pivotal roles. For a long time, there have been speculations that the film is an official remake of Balakrishna’s Bhagavanth Kesari.

The makers finally dropped the theatrical trailer a few minutes ago, and it clearly confirms that Jana Nayagan is indeed a remake of the Balakrishna starrer, but with a twist. While Bhagavanth Kesari primarily highlighted women’s empowerment and the importance of self-reliance in challenging situations, Vijay’s film retains this core theme while adding new layers.

The story appears to have been tweaked with additional elements, including politics and a robotic angle. The antagonist is given more prominence, and the film appears to incorporate political satire, seemingly designed to align with Vijay’s political stature. Grand visuals and high production values stand out as major positives of the trailer, along with Thalapathy Vijay’s commanding screen presence and mass moments.

Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Sunil, Priyamani, and Narain play supporting roles. The film is produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, while Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music. Jana Nayagan will release as Jana Nayakudu in Telugu and Jan Neta in Hindi.
