Generally, a film’s second Friday collections will be lower than its first Friday. If the second Friday surpasses the first Friday, it indicates the movie is displaying an extraordinary box office trend, as such a feat is quite rare. But what if a film’s third Friday collections surpass both its first and second Fridays?
Well, there are hardly any adjectives to describe the sensational run of Imtiaz Ali’s latest outing Main Vaapus Aaunga. Yesterday (third Friday), the film collected Rs. 2.85 crores nett, higher than its first Friday (Rs. 1.15 crores nett) and second Friday (Rs. 1.90 crores nett).
Yesterday coincided with the Muharram holiday, but the trade believes the film could have still posted solid numbers even without the holiday factor, as today’s advance bookings are higher than those of the third Friday. So far, the romantic drama has collected Rs. 37 crore nett. For a film that opened at around Rs. 1 crore nett, no one would have expected such a miraculous turnaround.
Main Vaapus Aaunga has once again proved that content is the king and word of mouth is the best marketing tool for any film. Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in the lead roles.
