Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Saturday stated there was no need for anyone to resign from their posts following the debacle of the Congress party in the by-elections held for seven Assembly segments in the State.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Chiranjeevi said that the results came in favour of Telangana Rashtra Samithi as the Telangana sentiment was strong in the region. Stating that by-elections in seven segments were held under certain prevailing conditions, he expressed confidence that the Congress party would win in the ensuing 18 Assembly constituencies including the Tirupathi Assembly constituency, vacated by him.

Chiranjeevi said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was in no way responsible for the debacle of party in the by-elections and lauded him for working efficiently in the taking the State on growth path. Responding to fielding of candidate to Tirupathi Assembly constituency vacated by him, he said that names of the aspirants were yet to be finalized.

Responding to Minister for Mines Galla Aruna Kumari declaring that her industrialist son Galla Jayadev would be the Congress candidate for the upcoming Tirupathi by-election, Chiranjeevi feigned ignorance over her announcement.

Chiranjeevi said that he came to New Delhi to thank Sonia Gandhi for elevating him as the member of the Rajya Sabha. However, he said his meeting with Sonia Gandhi was not of any political significance. “Nothing has transpired over giving Cabinet Minister’s post to me in our discussions,” he claimed.

The newly elected Rajya Sabha MP said that he had discussed with Sonia Gandhi over the outcome of by-election results and latest political situation in the State. He said that Sonia Gandhi has made certain suggestions to improve the party position in the State.

Chiranjeevi said that he had assured Sonia Gandhi that he would make complete efforts to strengthen the party and ensure victory for Congress candidates in 18 Assembly segments in the ensuing by-elections. (INN)
