Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday released a book “Threads of Hope – the Magical Weaves of Andhra Pradesh.”

The book, a leisurely stroll through the history of textiles of Andhra Pradesh, has been written by prominent freelance Writer Noopur Kumar, was released at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office at Begumpet. The Chief Minister while congratulating the writer Noopur Kumar said that the making of fabric is deeply rooted in the religious and social traditions of the land.

Noopur Kumar informed that the book is also the story of the life and legacy of the weavers and their craft – be it the arresting narratives of Kalamkari, the intrepid designs of Ikat or the melange of colours of Mangalgiris. She also described that weaving is like a symphony, with a profusion of exotic colours, vivid designs and finish, every work a piece of art – fascinating, enchanting.

The making of fabric is a profound experience for all – the one who spins the yarn, the person who colours it and the artist on the loom who expands an inner dialogue, as he plays with the wrap and the weft. A weaver weaves to live and lives to weave. His unhurried rhythm and pattern of life is woven with yarns of different hues not always as glossy as the silk on his loom, but dyed in an array of colours – bright red, fuschia, green and purple along with the gloomy grey, beige and black. Drawing strength from the beauty of life, he plays with tints and hues to bring energy, excitement, hope and elation on his loom, the writer added.

The author, Noopur Kumar has lived in different parts of Andhra Pradesh and it was while living in Tekkali in the Srikakulam district that she was fascinated by the warp and the weft when she first saw khadi being spun at Ponduru. She is a free lance writer and her earlier book, “Hyderabad – Potrait of a City” was very well received. She presented this book also to the Chief Minister.

Noted photo journalist D Ravinder Reddy teamed up for photography with Smt Noopur Kumar for this book and also for her earlier book “Hyderabad – Portrait of a City”. (INN)
