Dist. administration on high alert: Cyclone

The district administration is put on high alert with the cyclonic storm Thane, which lay centered 300 kms off south east Chennai, likely to cross the coast between Nagapatnam and Chennai on Friday.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi held a meeting with concerned officials to review the preparedness to tackle the contingencies arising out of the cyclone crossing the coast which results in heavy rain and squally winds along the coastal region.

District administration was asked to evacuate people living in low lying areas well in advance and shift them to the shelters besides providing medical facilities, drinking water and sanitation.

Panchayat Raj department was asked to supply chlorine tablets to all the villages. Animal Husbandary department was instructed to take care of livestock. R&B department should keep required implements to cut the trees and restore traffic without much inconvenience to the public.

The Municipal Administration department was asked to ensure provision of clean drinking water to the public.

Fisheries department officials were asked to rescue the fishermen who are stranded in the sea.(INN)
