The dead body of slain Maoist leader Mallojula Koteshwara Rao alias Kishanji was brought to the city from Kolkotta through a regular Spicejet flight on Saturday evening.
The body was brought to Kolkotta airport after an autopsy was conducted in West Midnapur of West Bengal. It was then flown to Hyderabad in a Spicejet flight. Several leaders affiliated with the human rights groups reached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad to claim the body and planned to take it to Tank Bund. However, police did not allow them to even see the body.
Later, Kishanji’s body was directly taken to his native town Peddappli in Karimnagar district under tight security.
Meanwhile, a bandh was observed in Peddapalli in protest against the killing of Kishanji by the West Bengal police in an encounter. All shops, business establishments, educational and others institutions were closed on Saturday morning for a few hours.
Following reports that some Maoists would attend Kishanji’s funeral under the guise of journalists, the police kept a close watch on the entry of non-local journalist. A journalist of Anand Bazaar Patrika, Sunonda, was detained by the Peddapalli police on suspicion of him being a Maoist. However, he was released later after he proved his identity.
Heavy security arrangements have been made in the entire Peddapalli town for the funeral of Kishanji which will be performed on Sunday. (INN)
