Published on Dec 14, 2011 4:30 pm IST

Proud Indians, a group of young professionals and students, will be launching Honest Steps – a walk across India, starting from Kanyakumari on December 18, 2011.

This over 5,000 kms journey by walk is expected to reach New Delhi on April 7, 2012. The initiative hopes to reach out to over a million Indians to join the walk at various points along the way. Honest Steps has invited Indians from all walks of life to join in to walk for any stretch and length of walk of their choice.

“We had a debate on corruption and it sparked a desire to translate our thoughts into action. A walk is a very powerful instrument of shaping character. Mahatma Gandhi has shown how positively it can lead to transformation. Honest Steps will touch hearts, raise questions and inspire people to taking a pledge of personal honesty and joining to establishing a Zero Corruption Day,” said Ashar Farhaan while addressing a press conference at Lamakaan here on Wednesday.

“We hope to have over a million Indians along the path to come walk with us, hold the Flame of Honesty. The Honest Steps will culminate in the Establishing of the Zero Corruption Day on April 8, 2012,” said Ravikant Pathak.

“We will walk for over 5,000 kilometers, covering 15 states, over 100 cities and towns and innumerable villages. We will have an experience of a lifetime, of fun and adventure – coming across sights and sounds, people and events. We will experience poverty and pain, and search for hope. And we will sing and dance along the way… hoping to find answers, or at least ask the right questions,” said Vivek Gina.

Rohit Lingineni, Mujeeb Abdul Khan, Raja Kartikeya and members of Honest Steps also spoke. (INN)
