Published on Feb 10, 2012 1:09 pm IST

Prohibition and Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Friday reiterated that he was ready to face any enquiry to prove that he had no connections with the liquor syndicate.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Legislature Party after meeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office, Mopidevi said that he was unnecessarily being dragged into this controversy. He slammed the Anti-Corruption Bureau for including him name in the remand case dairy of an accused (Nunna Venkata Ramana) who had a criminal background. However, he demanded that a detailed enquiry should be ordered into the ACB report.

Mopidevi said that he has already briefed Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy about this issue and the latter has assured that he would enquire into the matter. He alleged that the allegations of him accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the liquor syndicate were politically motivated.

The Excise Minister also condemned the comments of Family Welfare Minister DL Ravindra Reddy wherein he stated that the former was being made a scapegoat in the case because he belongs to the Backward Classes. However, he thanked Ravindra Reddy for supporting him at this crucial juncture.

Mopidevi also refuted reports that leaders of Backward Classes were being targeted in the Congress party. He said the leaders of all communities were happy within the Congress party and no injustice was done to any community, including the BCs. (INN)
