Describing TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu’s padayatra as a political stunt, Congress on Thursday said he had to take up this exercise as there was a threat for the very existence of his party.
Minister for Civil Supplies and Legislative Affairs D Sridhar Babu slammed Naidu, for what he called, his last resort to show the presence of TDP in the region. “The padayatra is only to protect his selfish interests, “he told reporters here. Naidu is shedding crocodile tears in the name of fighting for farmers’ cause, he said.
Naidu’s commitment for the farmers’ cause has always been questionable and his past record shows his commitment, or the lack of it, on farmers’ issues, he said.
The TDP leader took out padayatra to protect his party, which was on verge of extinction, due to ambivalent stand of TDP on Telangana issue, he said.
Telangana Congress leaders have been mounting pressure on the high command to take a favourable decision on statehood issue, he added.
If Naidu has any commitment on Telangana, the Minister challenged him to give a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram stating that TDP has no objection for Telangana formation.
He stated that both Telugu Desam Telangana Forum and TRS have no clear stand on Telangana issue. (INN)
