Condemning the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for suspecting betrayers’ hand behind the Satyagraha of freedom fighter Konda Laxman Bapuji, who observed a week-long fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the cause of Telangana statehood, Handlooms and Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao on Tuesday described the TRS statement as `unwarranted’ and `untimely.’
Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office, Shankar Rao said 97-year-old freedom fighter did not observe the fast to become the Chief Minister or expect MP seat. He said that the fragile-looking Konda Laxman Bapuji observed fast for the Telangana statehood without expecting any political power and personal gains.
“The TRS suspecting his commitment for the statehood is not good,” the Minister said and denied TRS allegations levelled against Konda Laxman Bapuji as far from truth and baseless. “The people of the region will decide who the actual betrayers are,” he said.
Shankar Rao also asked as to why the TRS did not extend support to former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s hunger fast if it was really committed for the Telangana statehood agitation. He said the TRS was trying to project itself as the sole champion of Telangana.
The Minister also denied the reports stating that the Centre would set up regional councils to address backwardness and development issues in the state and described them as the creation of media. (INN)
