The Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday informed Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar about its plans to move a No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
Briefing the media after attending assembly’s Business Advisory Committee meeting, TDP deputy floor Leader Ashok Gajapati Raju said that the party has formally informed the Speaker about the No Confidence Motion. He said the TDP would also press for discussion on drought situation, rising prices of essential commodities, power problems, fee reimbursement and scholarships of hostel students and problems of handicraft workers.
However, Gajapathi Raju said that the party was not happy with the session’s duration being just five-days as there were lot of public issues that need to be discussed in the House. He said the party has suggested the Speaker to conduct 45 days per year session. So far, the session has been conducted for 31 days and the remaining 15 days should have been utilised for the winter session. Despite TDP insistence for 15-day session, he said the BAC decided to limit the duration to only five days.
The TDP leader evaded a question on whether the party plans to move Telangana Resolution in the assembly. Mweanwhile, Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu accused the government of violating the rights of legislators and resorting to illegal arrests. He demanded that the Speaker take steps for protecting MLAs’ rights.
Lok Satta president Jai Prakash Narayan stated that the government was conducting the assembly session more as a ritual and not to address the issues facing the State. However, he said that he would support the No Confidence Motion against the government, if introduced by the TDP.
CPI floor leader Gunda Mallesh said the assembly should make efforts for resolving the Telangana issue. He also demanded a resolution opposing the Foreign Direct Investment in retail sector in the state.
Meanwhile, TRS floor leader Etela Rajender and BJP MLA Laxminarayana announced that they would not allow the assembly to function until the government moves a resolution on Telangana state.
On the other side, Congress MLA from Telangana region Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said that there was no need to move a resolution on Telangana in the assembly as the Centre was making efforts to resolve the issue. (INN)
