Current was released this week amidst a lot of expectations from Sushanth given his successful debut with Kalidas and the backing of Nagarjuna as the producer. To a certain extent, Current lives up to expectations of being a decent entertainer despite a clichéd and predictable college romance.

What is it about : Sushanth is a happy-go-lucky college student whose philosophy of life is summed up as “Forget Yesterday, Enjoy Today & Worry Not about Tomorrow” which keeps him happy but worries his parents to no end. A transfer brings the entire family to Hyderabad where he flips for his college classmate Sneha on day one. A determined Sushanth woos her successfully and we are treated to a couple of songs in the bargain. Now, Sneha’s philosophy of life runs totally opposite of Sushanth and very soon reality sets in. His attitude ruins his marriage prospects with Sneha and they end up separating. The second half of the movie is all about how they try to “fall” out of love while making compromises to their philosophies. As expected, it ends well with both accepting that Love is above everything else in life!!!

What is Good: Despite the predictability of the story, Current manages to keep you entertained most of the time thanks to the music and the breezy first half. Almost everyone puts up a spirited performance and the catchy songs come in regular intervals. Sushanth comes up with a decent performance except for the emotional scenes where he comes across as limited. The comic sub-plot with Brahmanandam is quite good since it comes like a break during the slightly serious second half.

What is bad: Nothing much here except the predictable script which keeps giving you feeling that you have seen this before. Sneha can very well do with some acting classes to move beyond her limited expressions.

Me Thinks: This is one of those timepass movies that you can watch with your friends or to kill time. This might work well with the college crowd.

Tailpiece: Both Sushanth and Sneha sport their own names for the characters they play in the movie.
