Varun Sandesh’s movies, irrespective of how they fared, have more often been blessed with good music. Happy Days, Kotha Bangaru Lokam, Maro Charitra etc are just few examples, though they all had music from Mickey J. Meyer. His latest movie Kudirithe Kappu Coffee has music from new comer Yogeshwar Sharma. That this debutant is son of Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry means we will hear some good Telugu songs. As a bonus all the songs in Kudirithe Kappu Coffee have been written by Sirivennala. Will Yogesh’s music do justice to his dad’s lyrics? Let’s find the answer.

1. Srikaram
Singer: RS.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Nihal

Kudirithe KappuThe moment we start listening to Srikaram, we feel like we are listening to an old song. The lyrics are written well (as expected from Sirivennela) and the free flowing tune allows more space for the writer’s words. Sirivennela finds new ways to praise a beautiful girl, but Yogeshwar’s choice of instruments is a bit old fashioned. Except the way he uses violins, there is nothing new about the music. Did director Ramana Salva cleverly use this music to enhance his heroine’s image? We will know about it only when the film releases.

2. Edo Edo
Singers: Ranjit

Kudirithe KappuEdo Edo starts off with some techno beats, but gets you into the groove with violins and sheer intensity. Electric guitars add to its intensity and so does Ranjit’s voice. Unlike the previous song, the lyrics of the song are overshadowed by the music here, even though Sirivennela’s class is quite notable in the kind of words he chooses.

3. Athadilo Edo
Singers: Hamsika Iyer

Kudirithe Kappu Light and easy songs, no matter how they come, have always been appreciated by Telugu listeners and Athadilo Edo is one such. Sirivennela toys with words as he writes about a shy boy! Yogesh’s keeps his interference to a minimum as he lets his singer take the lead. He brushes the song with some beats, saxophone here and few Indian and western stringed instruments there. This one is an entertaining and an interesting number, best so far.

4. Anaga Anaga
Singers: M.M.Keeravani

Kudirithe KappuKeervani’s voice makes Anaga Anaga a terrific folk based song. When accompanied by good lyrics, such songs carry forward heavy meaning, and Sirivennela’s words work magic here. Just listen to the second stanza, which carries more meaning than any other song we’ve heard recently! Yogesh should be appreciated for going forward with the kind of tune he chose for this. It might sound quite old fashioned, but probably that’s why it works with its heavy weight lyrics.

5.Andarilaga
Singers:Chitra

Kudirithe KappuRight from the word go Andarilaga is a sure shot winner. Unlike the previous songs it sounds very ‘today’ kind of song. You will like the beat immediately, and Chitra’s voice is the icing on the cake. Tune is terrific and so are the words. The flute keeps you interested in the song throughout, and this song is Yogesh’s best work in the album.

Final Point : Kudirithe Kappu Coffee stands away from the norm in the Telugu film songs in which music is given priority than songs. Sirivennela’s lyrics just reiterate how good a writer he is. For the debutant music director Yogesh, working for the album must have been quite a learning experience. He should probably find better recording studios and find more ways of keeping regular Telugu film music interested in his music. On the whole Kudirithe Kappu Coffee deserves to be listened, especially for the last three songs.
