Taking a cue from Hollywood movies, our Tollywood film makers have often attempted interesting movies in the past. Directed by Sriniavs Raju, this suspense thriller has mostly newcomers and has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
The film is based on the story of four friends who are watching a movie called Naluguru. Interesting aspect is the movie they are watching, is also based on four friends who are haunted by some evil effects. Things take a u-turn and some quirky incidents start taking place in the theater. These incidents are exactly similar to those which are shown onscreen. What are those incidents? What is the connection between the real and reel life incidents? and what is the outcome of those incidents? That forms the rest of the story.
Though all are newcomers, the whole star cast does a commendable job in the film. Revanth has a major role in the film and does a decent job. But the icing on the cake is Sree whose character will be remembered by everyone. His role and acting capabilities are similar to that of Sarvanand.
Gavarraju’s comedy is apt and entertains you for most of the time. Shweta Pandit looks glamorous and plays her part well. The various aspects that every thriller is associated with have been covered decently in Theater Lo Naluguru.
Theater Lo Naluguru could have been a perfect short film, but the director dragged it and made it into a feature film. First half of the movie is very slow and takes for ever to pick up. The movie is filled up with unnecessary scenes like the cheesy skin show and some double meaning dialogues.
Major aesthetics like makeup for the devil’s character has gone wrong completely. As said earlier, if the movie had more humor and less skin show this would been a far better film.
For any horror movie technical aspects are a major asset. The background score of this movie is apt and causes a decent effect. Camera work is perfect and showcases the horror elements well. Director has been majorly successful in bringing his characters to life. The way he has handled the characterizations is pretty good. Many scenes could have been edited to make the film more crisp.
On the whole, Theater Lo Naluguru is one film which has its highs and lows. Interesting concept, thrilling scenes and uniqe story telling are some plus points. On the flip side, painful length of the film and unnecessary scenes spoil the fun. With no publicity for the film and a new star cast, box office success for this film will be very limited.
