Kobali is the latest Telugu web series released today on Disney Plus Hotstar, featuring Ravi Prakash, Rocky Singh, Tarun Rohith, and Shyamala in key roles. Read our review to find out how the series fares.

Story:

Set in the faction-driven Rayalaseema region near the AP-TG border, Kobali follows the lives of three brothers – Gopi (Shiva), Srinu (Ravi Prakash), and Ramu (Tarun Rohith), sons of Sambaiah (Revanthinath). Gopi’s illicit affair with Ramana’s (Rocky Singh) sister ends tragically when she dies in a quarrel. Seeking revenge, Ramana targets not just Gopi, but his entire family, dragging them into a violent and brutal cycle. As the bloodshed escalates, Srinu steps up to retaliate. The series explores themes of revenge, betrayal, and survival, culminating in a tense conflict between the two sides.

Plus Points:

Ravi Prakash delivers a solid performance, subtly enhancing his role with nuanced acting that stands out among the cast.

Rocky Singh is effective as the villain, portraying a ruthless character with conviction. His performance leaves room for more impactful villainous roles in the future. The rest of the cast, including Tarun Rohith, Shyamala, and Shiva, do their parts decently, though they don’t stand out as much.

Minus Points:

While the series starts with promise, it quickly loses momentum. The story is straightforward and somewhat predictable, and the screenplay lacks the depth needed to elevate this action-packed drama.

The plot feels underdeveloped, with little to no exciting twists or significant action. Instead, the series relies heavily on repetitive, violent scenes that fail to engage or build excitement.

The overuse of cuss words is a noticeable issue, making the series unsuitable for family viewing. Even though the target audience is 18+, the raw language feels excessive and detracts from the overall experience.

Despite having a wide range of characters, only a few are notable. The lack of character development and emotional depth weakens the impact of the performances and makes the show feel lackluster.

Technical Aspects:

Gowra Hari, known for his work on Hanu-Man, doesn’t quite bring his usual touch to the music here. The soundtrack doesn’t enhance the scenes as expected. The cinematography is average, but the editing feels rushed, and the series could have benefitted from better pacing and trimming.

The production values are adequate, but director Revantha Levaka fails to create a lasting impression. His dialogues are weak, and the reliance on excessive cuss words limits the appeal of the series to a specific audience, undermining its potential.

Verdict:

On the whole, Kobali is a letdown of a web series. With a weak story, lackluster screenplay, shallow scenes, and an overuse of vulgarity, it simply fails to meet expectations. Even though Ravi Prakash and Rocky Singh give decent performances, the overall experience is underwhelming. At four hours long, it’s best to pass on this one and look for better entertainment options to make the most of your weekend.
