The finest compliment a Telugu woman can ever receive is that ‘You are as beautiful as a Bapu Bomma’. Perhaps, this is the best example of the place Bapu garu has in the hearts of the Telugu people. This legendary artist and director turns 78 today.
Bapu was born as Sattiraju Lakshminarayana on December 15th 1933 in Narasapur, West Godavari. He began his career as a political cartoonist for the Andhra Patrika in 1945. His unique style of painting and his trademark scheme of bright colours won him lasting fame. His paintings reflect the beauty of the Telugu culture. Along with his paintings, Bapu has also created a unique font of Telugu cursive writing.
Along with his dearest friend Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, Bapu made many landmark Telugu films. Sampoorna Ramayanam, Seetha Kalyanam, Muthyala Muggu, Shri Ramanjaneya Yuddham, Radha Kalyanam, Pelli Pusthakam, Mister Pellam etc are some of his iconic films.
His recent offering ‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ has won all round praise for the sheer beauty with which it was mounted on screen. The elegance and artistry in each and every frame has Bapu’s mark over it.
