Raja Shivaji, headlined and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, emerged as the highest-grossing Marathi film ever, surpassing Sairat. Released in both Marathi and Hindi, the historical epic grossed over Rs. 130 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. The Marathi version contributed the major share of the collections.
The box office hit is now gearing up for its OTT debut. Raja Shivaji will begin streaming on Netflix from June 26 in Marathi and Hindi audio, as per the latest update. As of now, there is no clarity regarding the availability of other dubbed language versions.
The film chronicles the early life and rise of Shivaji Maharaj, depicting how he challenged powerful empires and laid the foundation of Swarajya long before being crowned Chhatrapati in 1674.
Apart from Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, the film features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Boman Irani, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh in pivotal roles. Salman Khan made a special cameo appearance.
