Hollywood Superstar Tom Cruise is now coming up with a distinct film titled Digger. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, the satirical black comedy opens in cinemas on October 2. Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, and Michael Stuhlbarg are also part of the film.
Netizens were in for a sudden shock as the film debuted with just a 52% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Digger is projected to earn between $12 million and $15 million in its launch weekend in North America, which would mean a disastrous start for a film that needs to earn $350 million globally just to break even, as per Variety.
Digger is Tom Cruise’s first original movie since 2017’s hit American Made, and the actor promoted it aggressively, as it is tough to draw audiences for a black comedy. Warner Bros. has been having a poor year with its big films like Supergirl and The Bride ending up as major disappointments, and none of its releases crossing $100 million domestically.
Expectations were high on Tom Cruise to deliver the much-needed hit for the studio amid a bleak year, but Digger is also heading towards a poor opening, adding salt to the wound.
