Superstar Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilipkumar have teamed up again for the high profile sequel Jailer 2. While promotions are in full swing across southern markets, a roadblock has hit the film’s North Indian theatrical rollout. Reports suggest the Hindi version will completely skip major national multiplex chains like PVR INOX and Cinepolis.
The issue stems from the OTT release timeline, with the producers choosing to stream the film four weeks after its theatrical debut. National cinema chains insist on an eight-week gap for all Hindi releases, leading the team to settle for a single-screen release in northern states instead. A leading OTT platform has reportedly paid a massive sum to secure the digital streaming rights for this quick four-week window.
Sun Pictures has backed the big-ticket project, which features cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Hrithik Roshan. In the meantime, the grand Telugu pre-release event is happening this evening in Hyderabad. Music director Anirudh Ravichander will take the stage for a live performance to wrap up the local campaign.
