Thimmarajupalli TV and Papam Prathap have slowed down significantly at the box office as weekdays kick in. Both films opened to fairly decent reviews and positive word of mouth in certain sections, but that hasn’t translated into strong theatrical footfalls.

On Monday, occupancy for both films remained below the 50% mark, indicating a clear dip after the weekend. Despite having content that appeals to a niche audience, the lack of star power seems to be affecting their overall reach.

In today’s scenario, even well-reviewed small films need strong buzz or backing to sustain in theatres. With limited visibility and low initial momentum, both films are now facing an uphill task to hold screens in the coming days.

Suriya is aiming to make a comeback with the rural action entertainer Karuppu. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film is slated to hit screens on May 14. Sai Abyankkar is the music composer.

Initially, the team roped in AR Rahman, but later the music composer opted out of the film due to personal reasons. Talking about the same, Sai Abyankkar said, “When I got Karuppu offer it was literally surprising for me. I didn’t get any clear answer why AR Rahman sir is out of the project. I spoke to Rahman sir also & he was fine that I’ll be doing music.”

He added, “The entire film has superb energy with a blend of mass and spirituality. Re-recording is 70% done, and we are gearing up for audio launch which will happen soon.”

Trisha plays the female lead, while the film is produced by S. R. Prakash Babu and S. R. Prabhu under Dream Warrior Pictures The film will release in Telugu as Veera Bhadrudu.
