Exclusive Interview : Amyra Dastur – Doing more south films is my target

Young actress, Amyra Dastur is taking rapid steps in her career with some very interesting films in her kitty. Her new big budget film with Jackie Chan, Kung Fu Yoga is ready for release and on this occasion, we caught up with her for an exclusive interview. Let’s see what she has to say.

How excited are you about the film’s release?

I am super excited about Kung Fu Yoga. The film has already opened in China and has already broken several records there. I am eagerly waiting to see how the film will open in India.

How did you bag this offer?

I actually auditioned for the project without knowing that it was for a Jackie Chan film. After a month and a half, I got a call saying that I was on and Jackie Chan would be the hero. I was super excited and also came to know that my close friend Disha Patani was selected for the same film.

Your role?

I play a very important role in the film which has a good twist during the half time. The film is based on a treasure hunt which features Indian princesses me being one among them.

Working with Disha Patani?

She has an interesting role in the film and it was great fun shooting with her. We both are very close and belong to an agency called Puri Connect which is run by ace director Puri Jagan. I was also supposed to be launched by Puri in Telugu but as I got selected in Kung Fu Yoga, I had to leave my Telugu project.

Experience shooting with Jackie Chan?

It was a dream come true to work with a legend whom we have all grown up watching. I was quite nervous the first day but Jackie was hugely chilled out and helped me very much during a stunt scene where I got injured. He even postponed the shoot for two days until I recovered and that shows what kind of a star he is.

About International exposure?

For me, everything happened in quick time and am very happy with whatever exposure I am getting. To date, the reception has been very good and I hope it continues in the future as well.

Shooting with Sonu Sood?

Initially, I thought that he was a very serious man in real life. But after spending so much time with him on the sets, I have a good rapport with him now. As I am a vegetarian, I remember, he used to bring me vegetarian food for me in China and took good care of me.

Future projects?

I am doing a Tamil film with comedian Santhanam which is currently on floors. Once this Kung Fu Yoga is out, I will be reading more scripts and signing more projects.

What’s your career plan?

As of now, my aim is to do good south Indian films. I love the way family films are made here. There is so much bonding and I being a complete family girl, would love to do family entertainers in the future.

Dream role?

I want to do a role which is out and out comedy oriented. My role should give me scope to perform and showcase my talent.

Sum up Kung Fu Yoga for us?

This is a typical Jackie Chan action comedy which can be enjoyed by the entire family. Especially the kids will love the film as it has a lot of funny stuff.

With that, we ended our conversation with Amyra and wished her the best of luck for her international project.
